FM Radio was first introduced by All India Radio in 1972 at Madras and later in 1992 at Jalandhar.
Phase One: In 1993, the government sold airtime blocks on its FM channels in Madras, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Goa to private operators, who developed their own programme content.

Indian policy currently laid down that these bids were a One-Time Entry Fee (OTEF), for the entire license period of 10 years. Annual license fee for private players is either 4% of revenue share or 10% of Reserve Price, whichever is higher
.
Four years later (1997), after the initial euphoria died out and most of the bidders could not meet their commitments to pay the governments the amounts they had expected and defaulted.
The only non-defaulter was the Times Group which operated its brand, Times FM, till June 1998. The government, therefore, decided not to renew contracts given to private operators.

Chak De! India (Hindi: चक दे इंडिया English: "Go For It, India!")[1] is 2007 a Bollywood sports film about field hockey in India. It is directed by Shimit Amin, produced by Yash Raj Films, sports action by Rob Miller of ReelSports, and stars Shahrukh Khan as Kabir Khan, the (fictional) former captain of the Indian national field hockey team. After a disastrous loss to the Pakistan men's national field hockey team, Khan is ostracized from the sport. He and his mother are further forced from their ancestral home by angry neighbors. Seven years later in an attempt to redeem himself, Khan becomes the coach for the Indian women's national field hockey team with the goal of turning its sixteen contentious players into a champion team. After leading the women's team to the Gold, Khan restores his good name and returns with his mother to their home, welcomed by those who had shunned them years before. Screenwriter Jaideep Sahni decided to write a fictional screenplay based on the winning of the Gold by the Indian women's field hockey team at the 2002 Commonwealth Games after reading about it in the newspaper.[2][3] Thus the characters, while inspired by the real team and coaches, were invented by Sahni.[4] Although some media outlets compared Kabir Khan to real-life hockey player Mir Ranjan Negi,[5] Sahani has stated that he was unaware of Negi's tribulations while writing the script and that the resemblance with Negi's life was coincidental.[6] In addition, some media outlets claimed that there were "uncanny similarities" between Chak De! India and the 2004 Hollywood film Miracle.[7] In response, director Shimit Amin denied this claim stating that Chak De! India was inspired by the win at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and that "Jaideep is the most original scriptwriter in India."[8] Earning over Rs 639 million, Chak De! India was the third highest grossing movie of 2007 in India [9] and was critically acclaimed.[10] Chak De! India has won numerous awards (including eight for Best Film) and received the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie. The suspension of the Indian Hockey Federation in April, 2008 emphasized the film's influence. After a new hockey council was formed, former hockey player, Aslam Sher Khan, stated in an interview, "We have to make a Team India as you have seen in bollywood blockbuster Chak De! India. There are players from several parts of the country. We have to unite them to make a powerful force.

A moment comes, which comes but rarely in history, when we step out from the old to the new, when an age ends and when the soul of a nation, long suppressed, finds utterance.... We end today a period of ill fortune, and India discovers herself again." … Jawaharlal Nehru (Speech on Indian Independence Day, 15th August 1947)

India Team Wallpaper Biography

Governed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), it is a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC) with Test and One Day International (ODI) status.

The Indian cricket team is currently ranked fifth by the ICC in Tests, third in ODIs and eighth in T20s.
On 2 April 2011, the team won the 2011 Cricket World Cup, its second after 1983.
It thus became only the third team after West Indies and Australia to have won the World Cup more than once.
Its is first cricket team to win world cup on home soil. In both Tests and ODIs, win-loss ratio of recent years is much higher than that of older periods, when it was a weaker team.

Currently Mahendra Singh Dhoni is the captain in all forms of the game while Duncan Fletcher is the coach.
Under the leadership of Dhoni, the Indian team has set a national record for most back-to-back ODI wins (9 straight wins) and has emerged as one of the most formidable teams in international cricket.

Although cricket was introduced to India by European merchant sailors in the 18th-century and the first cricket club in India was established in Calcutta in 1792, India's national cricket team did not play their first Test match until 25 June 1932 at Lord's.

They became the sixth team to be granted Test cricket status. In their first fifty years of international cricket, India proved weaker than Australia and England, winning only 35 of the 196 test matches.
The team, however, gained strength near the end of the 1970s with the emergence of players such as Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev and the Indian spin quartet—Erapalli Prasanna and Srinivas Venkataraghavan (both off spinners), Bhagwat Chandrasekhar (a leg spinner), and Bishen Singh Bedi (a left-arm spinner).

Traditionally much stronger at home than abroad, the Indian team has improved its overseas form since the start of the 21st century.

It won the Cricket World Cup in 1983 under Kapil Dev, was runners-up in 2003 under Sourav Ganguly, and won the World Cup a second time in 2011 under MS Dhoni.
India have also been the Runners-up in 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy, and the Joint Champions along with Sri Lanka in 2002 ICC Champions Trophy led by Sourav Ganguly in both the instances.

India also won the inaugural World Twenty20 under Mahendra Singh Dhoni in 2007. The current team contains many of the world's leading players, including Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag who hold numerous cricketing world records.

From around 1500 BC to 500 BC the Vedic civilization existed in Northern India, known for the creation of the Vedas, sacred texts of the Hindu religion. In the later Vedic period, from around 1000 BC to 500 BC, the Mahajanapadas emerged, and sixteen republics were established: Kasi, Kosala, Anga, Magadha, Vajji/Vriji, Malla, Chedi, Vasta/Vamsa, Kuru, Panchala, Matsya, Surasena, Assaka, Avanti, Gandhara, and Kamboja.

In 520 BC, the Persian Achaemenid Empire conquered the Northwest subcontinent, under the leadership of Darius the Great. The empire lasted two centuries, until Alexander the Great took control of the Achaemenid Empire. The Achaemenid Empire was followed by the large and powerful Mauryan Dynasty, lasting from 322 BC to 185 BC.

In 1526, Babur established Mughal Empire, an imperial power that grew to include the regions of modern-day India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. His son, Humayun succeeded him, and the Mughal dynasty lasted until 1857, though it shrank and weakened long before that time. The Mughal Empire was one of the largest and richest empires in Indian history.
